Common Problems with Word-to-PDF Exports
- RGB colour mode — Word works in RGB. Professional printing requires CMYK.
- Missing font embedding — Word does not always embed fonts by default.
- No bleed — Word does not support bleed settings. Files have no bleed margin.
- Low image resolution — Word may compress images during export, reducing quality.
- No PDF/X compliance — Word cannot export PDF/X directly.
Step 1: Export Correctly from Word
Use the best possible export settings in Word:
- File → Save As → PDF
- Click Options → select "ISO 19005-1 compliant (PDF/A)" — this improves font embedding
- Or: File → Export → Create PDF/XPS → Options → "ISO 19005-1"
Enable "Embed fonts in the file" under Save Options (Tools → Save Options).
